Vanilla cake is a treat for all cake lovers. It is soft, dense and white. It is a favourite when it comes to weddings and anniversaries. With this recipe, you can make a vanilla cake from scratch.

Whenever we hear the word ‘cake’, the first thing that comes to our mind is a delicious layer of bread topped with soft sweet cream. Cakes are one of the first international desserts (Thanks to Rome) we have ever had to celebrate. Nowadays cakes are the reason we have celebrations!

Basic cake ingredients are refined flour or bakery flour, baking powder, baking soda, powdered sugar and eggs. Besides these, you can use eggs, curd, flavouring extracts like vanilla.

Cakes can be made of any flavour of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and can be filled with fruit syrup, dry fruits, fresh fruits and dessert sauces. They are topped with cream, cherries, and colourful sprinkles or with chocolate sauce.

Things to keep in mind when baking a cake:

  • Choose an appropriate pan (8 inches or 9 inches in diameter).
  • Grease the pan to avoid sticking of cake.
  • Don’t forget to pre-heat the oven.
  • Make sure there are no lumps in the batter while mixing.
  • Don’t confuse between baking soda and baking powder because they look similar.
  • Keep mixing until small bubbles are visible.
  • Let the cake cool before moving it to a serving plate.
  • Don’t mix various recipes for the same dish.

This recipe uses powdered sugar, vegetable oil, bakery flour, baking powder, baking soda, unsalted butter, vanilla extract, milk and sour cream. You can serve this cake as a pastry. Also, you can use the same batter to make muffins.

Preparation Steps of Vanilla Cake


Instructions: 

 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix and combine the sugar, vegetable oil, eggs and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until the eggs and oil are properly mixed and the batter is ligh in color, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the bowl as needed.
  3. Next mix in the sour cream and beat until the mixture is properly mixed.
  4. Add half the flour followed by the baking powder and salt, and beat at a low pace while pouring in half of the milk and mix just until the flour starts to mix properly.
  5. Finally add the remaining flour, mixing at a low speed while pouring in the remaining milk and beating until all of the ingredients are well incorporated.
  6. Next, use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl and stir the batter from the bottom to the top to ensure it’s properly mixed.
  7. Now pour the batter in a 10-inch by 14-inch pan and bake at 350°F for 28-30 minutes, keeping an eye on the baking during the last few minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
  9. Test the cake for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the cake. If the toothpick comes out clean, you cake is done.
