The sago sabudana khichdi was first prepared in Uttar Pradesh and is hence considered to be the birthplace of this dish. This khichdi is unlike any other. It is not lumpy or filled with lentils (dal) and vegetables. This khichdi is the epitome of simple cooking that includes simple techniques and a great resulting dish. Preparation Steps of Sago Sabudana Khichdi


  1. Soak the sabudana overnight. Drain the water the next day and keep aside in a bowl.
  2. Boil potatoes and peel them when warm. Dice them!
  3. In a pan, dry roast the peanuts till browned and when cooled, make a powder of it.
  4. Mix the coarsely powdered peanuts and salt with the drained sabudana.
  5. Now, heat ghee in a pan.
  6. Fry the cumin seeds until brown.
  7. Then add the curry leaves and green chillies. Fry for 30 seconds and then add the ground ginger. Fry for 2 minutes on a low flame.
  8. Add the sabudana and keep stirring.
  9. When the sabudana turns translucent, they are cooked.
  10. While serving, garnish with coriander leaves and a little drizzle of lemon juice.
  11. Serve this sabudana khichdi hot!
