Introduction of Matar Paneer


Matar paneer is a delicious vegetarian north Indian dish which mainly consists of peas and paneer in a tomato-based tangy sauce, and is spiced with garam masala.
In most of the cases, it is served with rice and an Indian type of bread (generally naan, paratha, poori, or roti depending on region). Various other ingredients are often added, such as “aloo” (potato), corn, yogurt or cream in order to enhance the taste of matter paneer dish. At times, it is also served with jeera rice or pulao to improvise the taste.
Mattar Paneer is most popular in North India and is made on special occasions and festivals to make it even more special.
The dish is also famous in the United Kingdom where it is known as cheesy peas.

Preparation Steps of Matar Paneer


  • Fry the cut paneer slices to a golden brown colour and soak in milk.

  • Heat the oil in a pan. Fry the onion until light golden brown.

  • Add the tomatoes and fry until tender and soft. Add the curd and masalas and salt to taste.

  • Add the peas and 1 cup of hot water. Cook till the peas till they are tender.

  • Add the cream and paneer soaked in milk and cook it for 2 minutes.

  • Lastly, add the coriander leaves and ajwain as the topping. 

Mattar Paneer is ready to be served, club it with naan, parantha or rice and enjoy !
