Introduction of Dry Fruits Modak

INTRODUCING THE MODAK

Modak is a typical Indian dish that falls under the sweet category. No, it is not a dessert and neither is savoury. It is not especially eaten as a starter, a dessert or a main course. It is one such dish that is held in very high regard by the Indian Hindus. The modak is a critical dish in the festive celebrations of the Ganesh Chaturti. It is a dish that is prepared with the utmost love and offered to Lord Ganesh with a lot of devotion. This dish is then relished by the family. To every Indian Hindu out there, this dish holds a very special place in their hearts. It is the very spirit of this festival and calls home many memories.

The traditional modak is steamed rice-based dish with a rich and decadent jaggery, dry fruits and lentil filling. There are many versions of this traditional dish but the most famous by far is the dry fruits modak.

MORE ABOUT THIS RECIPE OF THE DRIED FRUITS MODAK

The dry fruits modak is nothing like the traditional classic modak. It does not have a rice base. However, it does have lush and rich dry fruits and nuts as its major ingredient. This entire dish is made with love. The addition of sesame seeds, ghee and cardamom add a wonderful flavour profile to the dish.

The dish is high in dietary fibre and a rich source of magnesium, iron, calcium, protein and manganese. This dish has high calories and fat. However, the fat from the ingredients used to make this modak come from the dried nuts. They are an excellent source of healthy and good fat.

This Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrate the grand bond of love, devotion, togetherness and happiness! With an extra touch of ghee, a dollop of dry fruits and the dash of sweetness, you have the secret to making the perfect modak.

Preparation Steps of Dry Fruits Modak

  1. Soak the figs and the dates for at least 2 hours.
  2. Grind all the nuts (almonds, peanuts, walnuts, pistachio nuts and cashew nuts) together in a blender.
  3. Put in all the ground nuts into a pan and saute well on a low flame for 8 to10 minutes with constant stirring.
  4. Into another pan, add in the sesame seeds, chironji, poppy seeds and desiccated coconut. Dry roast them well.
  5. Now grind the soaked figs and dates to form a thick, rich paste.
  6. In a pan, add in some ghee.
  7. Then add in the figs-dates paste and saute until fragrant for 2 minutes.
  8. Now add the chopped raisins and apricots into the figs-dates paste and mix thoroughly.
  9. Now add in the ground and sauteed dry fruits and nuts. Mix well in order to infuse them together.
  10. Now add in the coconut mix and cardamom powder.
  11. Mix until the paste forms a non-sticky dough mix.
  12. Take the modak shaped mould and apply ghee on the inner walls to avoid the dough from sticking and ruining the shape.
  13. Put the mix into the mould and create the perfect modak shape.

Serve it to Bappa with an extra touch of love in the form of ghee. Have a joyous Ganesh Chaturthi!
