This dish is very popular in the Southern regions of India. Being prepared in Tamil Nadu for the first time, this chana dal sundal is a national winner. Not only is it an amazing Navratri festive season dish but is also a great salad dish. The chana dal sundal is not made from chana dal. In fact, it makes use of split chana dal. The split chana dal is a lentil whereas the whole chana dal is a pulse.

MORE ABOUT THIS RECIPE OF THE CHANA DAL SUNDAL (SPLIT CHICKPEAS)

Although this recipe may seem to be rather simple that many other dishes out there, there are many critical areas that you should focus on. For instance, it is very important to soak the dal in hot water for at least 1 hour. The hot water tends to tenderize the dal a lot quicker. However, you can make use of cold water but this will take a longer time to tenderize the dal.

Since time is a luxury that many of us cannot afford these days, it is best to make use of hot water and pressure cookers to help you with quicker cooking!
